Low water availability , limited rainfall , limited arable land are the biggest restraints for agriculture production in the country.The area is dry and it has stayed like this for a long period and it is very tough to practice traditional ways of farming is such conditions.Very few parts of the country have above average conditions and support farming and hence the production has been low in the country.Moreover the desert storms add to the worry and harm the produce. Due to these reasons farmers have incurred huge losses in the past which has led to people moving away from farming and agriculture.Such harsh conditions restrict the growth of dairy as well as fishery consumables & meat market as it is tough for the animals also to cope with such conditions.

The Saudi government is encouraging agricultural companies to invest in foreign countries that have comparative advantage in producing certain crops and re-export their products back to Saudi Arabia. The crops targeted by this initiative include wheat, rice, barley, yellow corn, soybeans, and green forage.
