India is one of the biggest manufacturer of Beer in the world. Traditionally Beer started in Europe and African Countries. Beer have a recorded history of dating back to 5th millennium BC, recorded in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Beer market is matured in India over the years but still it is highly confined to limited varieties. Many International players have entered the market in past few years, but due to high import tax and restricted availability (limited to major cities), these companies haven?t achieved much till date. Some International companies like Budweiser and Carlsberg have created their presence in Indian Market and giving tough competition to domestic breweries. In Beer market, share of Kingfisher is highest in India followed by Carlsberg, Budweiser and Hayward?s. There are around 10 million Beer outlets and around 500,000 bars and pubs in the country. Before the liberalization and globalization in 1991, western Beer we?re not available in the Indian market and the brand awareness and recall among the local population was negligible but after 1991 the awareness has steadily increased. This has allowed international brands to flourish.
